What Is Piso WiFi? How Coin-Operated WiFi Works
Updated November 2026
Piso WiFi is coin-operated internet found all over the Philippines. You connect to a vendo machine's WiFi, drop coins or pay by voucher or e-wallet, and get internet time that counts down until it runs out.
Quick answer: "Piso" means one peso. A small machine with a coin slot shares an internet line over WiFi. Each peso buys a few minutes. You manage your time at a portal page, usually http://10.0.0.1.
Where you find piso wifi
Piso wifi machines are a common sight in sari-sari stores, carinderias, boarding houses and dorms. You also see them at tricycle terminals, barangay halls, small resorts and apartment buildings.
They became popular in the late 2010s, when cheap fiber and DSL plans reached more barangays. Many families cannot afford a monthly plan or have weak mobile signal at home. A peso at a time made internet reachable for students, workers and gamers.
The idea grew from the older "piso net", coin-operated computer shops. Today the phone replaced the shop PC, and the vendo replaced the cashier.
How piso wifi works, step by step
- The owner sets up the vendo. A small computer board, coin slot and WiFi access point sit in a box connected to an internet line.
- You connect to its WiFi. The network is often named after the store. It usually has no password.
- A portal page opens. Your phone shows a sign-in page, or you open 10.0.0.1 yourself.
- You pay. Tap Insert Coin and drop coins, enter a voucher, or pay by e-wallet if offered.
- The machine starts a session. It links your paid time to your phone's MAC address.
- Your timer counts down. You are online until the time runs out, unless you pause.
Want to save time when you step away? That is what piso wifi pause time is for. For help opening the page, see piso wifi login.
Kumonekta sa WiFi, buksan ang 10.0.0.1, maghulog ng piso, at may internet ka na.
Typical piso wifi rates
Each owner sets their own prices. These ranges are common, but your store may differ.
| Payment | Typical time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ₱1 | About 8 to 15 minutes | Good for a quick message |
| ₱5 | About 1 to 2 hours | Often includes a small bonus |
| ₱10 | About 2 to 5 hours | Popular for school work |
| ₱20 to ₱50 voucher | About half a day to a full day | Depends on the store |
| Weekly or monthly pass | Days to a month | Common in boarding houses |
Larger coins usually give more minutes per peso. Speed is shared by everyone connected, so it slows down when the store is busy.

Is piso wifi safe?
For normal browsing, yes, with some care. Piso wifi is a shared, open network. Other people are on the same WiFi.
- Use sites and apps with HTTPS. Banking apps already encrypt your data.
- Do not enter passwords on unfamiliar pages that pop up.
- Never give your OTP or MPIN to a portal or a stranger.
- Turn off file sharing on laptops.
- Ignore apps or sites promising free piso wifi time. They are scams.
Pause and vouchers only help you use time you paid for. No app can safely give you free time on someone's vendo.
